We need to decide how we want to treat Shohei Ohtani. Yahoo has decided to split him up into 2 players. One being a Hitter and one being a Pitcher. We need to consider that there could be future scenarios with Hunter Greene or Brendan McKay or others down the road. What we decide now will be how we treat this moving forward. We have 2 options.
1. Whoever gets Ohtani gets both players. The downside is that Ohtani will take up 2 roster spots.
2. We split him up. One person can own the pitcher, one person can own the hitter. Obviously this devalues the player a bit overall, but you can focus on the element you want him for the most.
Let me know what you guys think.

I'm fine with either, but if I have to pick, I think I would say option 2. It doesn't necessarily preclude someone from owning both of them, they just won't be able to get both with one pick.

I think we need to go with option 1.
Yahoo royally screwed this up by making him 2 players, but what if they eventually fix this and make him into 1 player next year or sometime in the future, this will create a problem if we choose to go with Option 2.

Yeah, not sure on this one. I don't think any site is handling him correctly. Fantrax is the closest, where they will let you start him as a pitcher or as a hitter, but not both in the same lineup period.
I don't like either of the options to be honest. I think whoever owns him should have both, but decide if they want to roster hitter and pitcher. And allow that owner to trade one or the other, if for example they decide they don't want to roster the hitter Ohtani.

Yahoo definitely screwed this up, but I'm in favor of having him be one player. If Yahoo corrects course in the future, we're gonna be screwed if one guy has OF Ohtani in their minors and another owner has SP Ohtani.

Adding in Brandon's comments from his email:
"I’m fine either way with Otani, but lean towards him being one player. I could also go either way on how many roster spots he takes up if you want to call him up as hitter as well, though it would be easiest to say he is one player but you you call up both him as a hitter and as a pitcher, it must take up 2 roster spots and must remain so as long as you have either of him as a hitter or pitcher. If yahoo would make changes to him being one roster spot, I would then agree he should count as 1. Basically making it easiest for league to continue with same amount of roster spots etc. I wish they didn’t have him as teo separate players though."

My opinion then, would be that Ohtani should be owned by one owner, they can decide to use him as both hitter and pitcher, or they can decide to only have one of him. We haven't seen him hit in the major leagues yet, taking up a hitting roster spot might just be a straight up punishment for owning Ohtani the pitcher. He might only get like 2 starts hitting a week. He might suck at hitting major league pitchers.

Looks like the consensus so far is to allow one person to own both the hitter and pitcher. He can start in the minor leagues and the owner can decide if/when to bring up either the hitter, pitcher, or both.
